September is REALTOR safety awareness month. Although many of us want to see the good in everyone, a person can never be too careful. In reviewing several articles, I came across some important tips to share with our sellers.
- Keep in mind that strangers will be walking through your home during showings or open houses. For security remember to remove keys, credit cards, jewelry, crystal, heirlooms and other valuables from the home or lock them away during showings. Its also a good idea to remove prescription drugs. Some seemingly honest people wouldn’t mind getting their hands on these bottles.
- Be sure to lock down your computer and lock up your laptop, Ipad etc, before your showing.
- Don’t leave mail or bills with personal information out in the open where anyone can see it.
- Although agents will take safety precautions while at your home and see that doors are locked upon leaving, its a good idea for you to immediately verify all doors are locked and valuables accounted for.
- If possible, animals should be removed during showings. Be aware that buyers and agents are sometimes attacked, and you could be held liable.
